Episode 29: Dr. Rosa Wu

Dr. Rosa Wu (she/her/hers) is a Registered Psychologist, academic, avid hiker, cook, and cinephile in Vancouver, Canada-the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh, and Squamish First Nations.  She received her MA in Psychological Counselling from Teachers College, Columbia University, and her PhD in Clinical and Counselling Psychology from the University of Toronto.  Dr. Wu has a busy private practice working with a diverse clientele and teaches part-time on culturally responsive and socially just practices in counselling and psychotherapy.  She has a special interest in working with intercultural couples.  She has published on topics relating to counselling in international contexts, anti-racism, and culturally responsive practices in therapy.  Dr. Wu is Chair of the Diversity and Social Advocacy Committee at the BC Psychological Association and is actively engaged in outreach and advocacy work outside her clinical and teaching roles.  More recently, she has been immersed in somatic work with trauma clients and taken a keen interest in psychedelic-assisted therapies.

Originally from Taiwan, Dr. Wu considers herself a global citizen who has once called Spain, Costa Rica, Panama, New York City, and Toronto her homes.  Lifelong immersion in very distinctive cultural contexts has given her the gift of multilingualism (English, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish) and a deep appreciation of and sensitivity towards cultural differences.

As an uninvited settler to Canada, Dr. Wu is constantly in awe of the mountains, ocean, rivers, lakes, and forests that she is surrounded by.  She has been working towards decolonizing her worldview and learning about Indigenous ways of knowing, relating, and healing.
