Episode 10: Dr. Jasmine R. Burton

Dr. Jasmine R. Burton is a licensed psychologist and the founder of Essence Psychological Health Services, PLLC. The mission of Essence Psychological Health Services is to provide culturally and gender-appropriate psychological services to women, children, and families. Dr. Burton’s research interests center on the intersections of race, sexuality, gender, health, and socioeconomic status on women’s mental health. Specifically, she is interested in the impact of racial and gender oppression on Black women’s mental, sexual, and reproductive health functioning. Dr. Burton has published and presented on such topics, as the mental health needs of women with serious mental illness, sexual scripts for African-American women within Hip-Hop culture, multicultural theory, and racial identity development. Her clinical focus is on women’s mental health, sexuality, grief and loss, and trauma. Also, Dr. Burton provides specialty services to women experiencing challenges related to reproductive loss, early infant mortality, infertility, Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders, trauma, and grief. Dr. Burton obtained her doctorate in counseling psychology from the University of Houston.
